The Languages Work Pledge is designed to raise awareness of the value of language learning and intercultural understanding and encourage support for this area of learning – from business, education and policy makers.

By pledging your support, we can encourage business, young people, and policy makers to realise the importance and relevance of languages and intercultural skills in the workplace.

Recent research carried out by The National Centre for Languages (CILT), with employers has demonstrated that more needs to be done to help both young people and employers articulate the benefits of learning a language. Improving the UK’s language capabilities will ensure we have sufficient linguists to conduct business across the world and in the UK, and provide important transferable skills for employment and life.

More and more companies are looking for staff with an understanding of other cultures There are increasing opportunities for those able to communicate in another language Young people from other countries are able to compete for jobs because they have excellent standards of English as well as other languages.
